I would like to talk about two intercom systems that we recently implemented for two different clients, the first system was a ComPoint Intercom System, and the other was an M&S Structured Wire Intercom System Kit.  The first one we had a nightmare with, which was the Russound intercom system.  The doorbell was DOA and two of the room units were DOA.  I am not going to sit here and dog that company for sending out dead units, as I do understand this happens from time to time especially when they sell A LOT of these units, some are bound to be bad.

 Let me give you the lowdown on these two systems.

 Both systems utilized cat5e structured cabling for both power and communications to the hub and to the units, which is nice as we are a cabling company.

Both of these units installed without a hitch after we acquired good units from the manufacture, but after the install and when it was time to program them now that's a different story. As far as ease of use goes I would go with the M&S unit any day of the week but when it comes to functions and customization Russound has it going on.

There was literally no programming involved with the M&S units, its a pretty simple product that services it purpose but lacks in some areas. With the M&S system when paging you are forced to page all units at the same time which could be bothersome if someone is sleeping and you are only trying to contact someone who is awake. The Russound units are very different in the aspect, you have the ability to page single units or sectors of units which enables you to not bother those who are sleeping or do not want to be bothered.

But for the money and ease of use and install I would go with the M&S units, I'm not saying this because of the dead units for Russound, just because of the simplicity of the units and the cost factor.
